CDP launches new data platform to combat climate change

The non-profit organization CDP is about to launch a new corporate reporting platform during the Global Disclosure Dialogue event, which will take place simultaneously in eight countries and will feature the participation of global leaders. The event, which will be broadcast live, starts in Tokyo and will pass through Shanghai, Singapore, New Delhi-Mumbai, Brussels, London, São Paulo and New York.

Among the confirmed spokespeople are executives from Japanese companies NTT Data and Nissay Asset Management, the vice president of Lenovo in China, and representatives from the International Monetary Fund, JPMorgan and Bloomberg. Brazil will be represented by Marcos Ivo, Financial and Investor Relations Director at Klabin.

CDP, known for managing the largest global environmental data platform, will integrate information on climate, forests, water security, plastic and biodiversity into its new system. Currently, more than 24 thousand organizations use the platform to provide transparency about their environmental practices.

Rebeca Lima, executive director of CDP Latin America, emphasizes the importance of environmental data transparency: "Access to quality data is a key element for defining effective and efficient strategies and action plans for disaster prevention, mitigation and adaptation climate."

The reporting cycle begins on June 4, with the launch of the new platform. During the event, regulatory aspects, strengthening small and medium-sized companies, challenges of disclosure standards and the supply chain will be discussed.

The presence of financial institutions is strategic to engage the private sector in discussions on climate finance. In Latin America, 35 investors, with more than US$2 trillion in assets, are committed to this agenda. In Brazil, eight financial institutions, with almost US$1 trillion in assets, influence their companies to report environmental performance.

To meet the needs of investors and regulatory bodies, such as the Real Estate Securities Commission (CVM), the new CDP 2024 corporate questionnaire is aligned with the ISSB standard (IFRS S2 standard). It also addresses topics such as forests, water, biodiversity and plastics in an integrated way, following the recommendations of the Task-force for Nature-related Finance Disclosure (TNFD).
